Who Is Lady Fatema?

As we commemorate the shahadah of our beloved Prophet (SAW)’s daughter Lady Fatema, it is important to talk about the significance of the Lady of Light.

Early Life

According to most sources Lady Fatema was born in 605 C.E. Fatema was born at a time when the Prophet had just started getting revelations, it was a difficult period as the Meccans expressed a lot of hostility towards the new faith. This deeply affected Fatema as she witnessed the mistreatment the Prophet had to face. For example, an event occurred in which the Prophet went to the Kaba to pray. During his prayers, some of the Meccans threw entrails of a slaughtered animal on him. Fatema ran to her father, wiped him off, and yelled at the Meccans.

Fatema & Her Relationship With The Prophet

The Prophet’s sons passed away at a very young age. As a result, the people of Quraish referred to him as “abtar” which means a person who cannot have sons.

Surah Al – Kawthar was revealed and gave the glad tiding of the abundant prosperity and Kawthar to the Holy Prophet PBUH and called his enemies, “abtar”.

After the demise of Lady Khadijah, the responsibility of taking care of The Prophet (PBUH) was on Bibi Fatimah’s shoulders. As a result of this, she is referred to as “Umm Abiiha” (the mother of her father)”.

من آذاها فقد آذاني ومن أغضبها فقد أغضبني من سرها فقد سرني ومن سائها فقد سائني

“Whoever harms her has harmed me and whoever angers her has made me angry;
Whoever makes her glad has made me glad, and whoever saddens her has made me sad.”

(132 الفضائل الخمسة، ج3، ص“Alfadhael Al-Khamsah” vol. 3 pg. 132)

A Role Model for Women

Lady Fatema inspires us on how to take care of our families, raise children, practise modesty in its full form, submit to Allah SWT and maintain patience in times of difficulty.

She is also known for her contributions to the community. For example, during the Battle of Uhud, she took care of the wounded and in the Battle of the Trench, she prepared food for the community.

 Lady Fatema led a very tough life, however, she was very compassionate and generous. Her faith in Allah despite the atrocities and injustice she faced remained strong. Hence, as her followers, we aspire to be the best Muslims we can be even in times of hardships.

At Al Kawthar, we continue to put our efforts into making the lives of Widows and Orphans better in any way we can.

In memory of Lady Fatema’s short life, Please support the widow and the Orphans  of our project to  donate generously.

Thank you very much
